A classic modern piece of poetry is James Wagner's piece 'from The Face Comes Forward' in the famous journal Lies/Isle [in issue 7, 'The Desert'], in his 'After Meditataion (32)' piece. It starts out with an excerpt that is so perfectly a paradigm of the modern:
Janus answers in a growing loam.
Mitotic, exuberant.
The face comes forward.
The face comes forward. [...]
